Watauga High School has welcomed many new teachers and administrators this year, all dedicated to improving our schools and community for the benefit of our students. Among these newcomers is Dr. Kimberly Coleman, Watauga High School’s new assistant principal this year. Although she has experience in the school system, she is eager to make this year distinctly special for students.

“Before coming to Watauga I worked in Avery County and I was the principal at Avery Middle School and before that, I was the assistant principal at Avery High School,” said Dr. Coleman.

While Avery is smaller than Watauga, Dr. Coleman has her heart set on meeting and getting to know as many students and teachers as possible at Watauga. Dr. Coleman takes great pleasure in helping students discover their passions and pursue their academic and career goals.

“One of my favorite things to do is to help students figure out what they want to do with their life and figure out their path after graduation from high school whether it be employment, enlistment, or enrollment,” said Dr. Coleman.

Dr. Coleman has had a positive first impression of Watauga, noting that her favorite aspect of the school is its welcoming environment.

“Even though we have so many students, they are all very kind and I love watching students interact with one another and staff members and they all have a smile on their faces,” said Dr. Coleman

With many exciting things coming up this year, Dr. Coleman is enthusiastic about becoming evermore involved with the community in her new role.

“We are growing our own future,” says Dr. Coleman. “The support from our community is very beneficial, and without it, we could not be as strong together as we are.”

As the school year continues, students are growing more comfortable at Watauga. Thanks to staff members like Dr. Coleman, the transition is becoming increasingly smooth and efficient.
