Comic-Con is Coming to Watauga High School

On April 30, from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM, there will be a comic convention, or Comic-Con, at the Watauga High School Media Center.

“A Comic-Con is a convention/event where people gather together to celebrate the world of Comic books and pop culture,” said Dana Ramseur, school librarian and host of the Comic-Con. “There are vendors selling comic-like items but there will also be some unique items that are not necessarily comic-book related.”

Each Comic-Con is unique from what they offer.

“Guests can expect to enter into a costume contest with trophy prizes and go shopping for unique items!” said Ramseur. “Some of our vendor's items include fairy hair extensions, buttons, pins, hoodies, globes, stickers, keychains, jewelry, artwork, belly dancing scares, nerdy necessities, Henna tattoos, crystal, wands, patches, wax melts, geekery gifts, wood carvings, 3D printing gifts, music boxes, and other oddities! There will be two cars in the entrance wrapped in My Hero Academia and Pokémon for guests to take pictures with and there will be a large dinosaur inside.”

Hosting a Comic-Con may not be typical Media Center offerings, but Ms. Ramseur has experience.

“I hosted Comic-Cons in my previous schools and when I came to interview for the librarian's job they asked if I had any questions and I immediately asked if I could host a Comic-Con, '' said Ramseur. “This event is free for guests, free for vendors and it is my "give-back" to the community and our students. I want to highlight and celebrate the students that have a passion for reading and plus who don't love a good costume!”

The Comic-Con will be a fun way for students to express themselves and their interests.

“It’s going to be an amazing time for the community as well as the students of WHS,” said Ramseur.
