Hozier, Irish singer and songwriter, just released his 8th extended play titled "Unheard." With 4 brand new songs, "Unheard" has been a popular choice from lovers of Alternative Indie/ Folk music. Hozier, only having released 3 studio albums, is most commonly known to release EPs, but this one has had much more publicity than any.
The first song on the album, "Too Sweet" has gained the most popularity out of any song on the EP. It is now number 2 on Billboard Hot 100, and has been on the billboard for two weeks now. With an amazing beat, beautiful vocals, and eloquent lyrics, "Too Sweet" definitely deserves the spot that it holds. Creating a feel of freedom and independence, "Too Sweet" is the perfect opener to the EP.
Even though "Too Sweet" has gained all the attention of the EP, the other songs deserve some recognition as well. "Wildflower and Barley," the second song on the EP features Canadian singer, Allison Russell. This song brings a unique and subtle feel of simplicity to the table. The lyrics give vibes of cheerfulness and peace that will make you want to relax.
"Empire Now" is the third song on the EP. While still following the folk feels, it almost dives into a western vibe. Previous songs on the EP are chill, but this one gives a more aggressive beauty to it. The lyrics in this song are quite repetitive, leading it to have a catchy, rhythmic vibe. The Egyptian aesthetic of this song makes you want to listen to it again and again.
Hozier closed the album off with "Fare Well," making sure we receive a proper goodbye to this EP. This song reclaims the indie music feeling that is portrayed in the first two songs. Yet again, this song brings the cozy and simple lyrics that avid Hozier listeners are typically accustomed to. A happy and upbeat song is just what is needed to close this EP off, and Hozier does an excellent job executing just that.
"Unheard" has made a positive impact on the Indie/Folk music scene. This EP will make you feel right back at home with its happy feelings. Hozier does a beautiful job at creating and producing this EP, and it is definitely my favorite piece from him yet.
