College Fair at Watauga
On September 19th, Watauga High School hosted their annual College Fair where over 40 various North Carolina universities presented their schools to students. The fair was held in the commons area at Watauga High School. The school hosted this event to help students decide what colleges they may want to attend.
Watauga gave QR codes to each student. This was used so that the colleges could scan the codes and send students the information they needed. It was also handy so that colleges could be able to contact students if they needed to.
Different students had different opinions on the matter and how it affected them.
Brecken Sauthoff, a sophomore at Watauga thinks that the college fair was helpful.
“It really helped me be more aware of the universities offered in state,” said Sauthoff, “In North Carolina there are so many different options.”
Sauthoff enjoyed different stations at the fair, one being Wake Forest University.
“Wake Forest really stood out to me because the representative who was there was so kind and understanding,” Sauthoff stated. “He was willing to talk to me for a while, and just answer all of the questions that I had.”
Hannah Sheffey, sophomore, felt like the event opened her eyes to new possibilities.
“I think it widened the horizon on different things,” Sheffey said. “I was just going to go to App State and then I saw the other options, and I was like ‘Oh, I could do anything really.’”
Sheffey thinks events like the College Fair are helpful.
“I think they should host more events like this. Also if you're stuck after school doing something, you can also just come and join the event, because it’s not too far after school,” Sheffey stated.
While Watauga hosts events, some people say they should be held more often because they are educational and enjoyable.
Junior Kara Lawrence made special connections at this event.
“The representative that was there for [UNC-Wilmington] was super helpful and gave me a lot of information that I wouldn't have known otherwise,” Lawrence stated.
The College fair was beneficial for all grades, but especially upperclassmen. The College fair helped narrow down options, and broaden horizons for a plethora of people.
“I think especially for upperclassmen it is very helpful,” Lawrence stated.
