A Black-throated Green Warbler is a primarily northern species but their breeding range extends south into the North Carolina Appalachians. They spend most of the winter in Central and South America. In Watauga county, they are tied to mixed hardwood forests with lots of Eastern Hemlocks. Like most other warblers, they are primarily insectivorous, which means the bulk of their diet consists of insects.
