At this year's Homecoming tailgate, NAHS provided a place where students could engage in art.
National Art Honors Society is a collaborative club that gives all students the opportunity to create, no matter their background or ability. Hosted every other Tuesday after school, NAHS currently welcomes over 50 members and an entirely new board of officers. Whether members plan to pursue art their entire life or have only taken Art 1, NAHS fosters a community that gives a place to all.
As a nationally recognized club with over 2,500 chapters in the country, NAHS is able to host various events throughout the school year, including the Empty Bowls fundraiser in the spring, a grassroots fundraiser where club members create ceramic bowls to be sold alongside local soup vendors. Likely the most anticipated art event of the year, National Art Honors Society members work hard to organize, set up and run the fundraiser.
NAHS also hosts a table at the homecoming tailgate every September. While face paint seemed to be the main attraction during the 2023 tailgate, the club also offered crafts, snacks and other activities.

When they aren’t preparing for an event, NAHS allows their members to create freely and collaborate with others in a shared art space.
“I really love having an outlet at school to let other people join in on art and all of the benefits of it,” says member and officer Ellee Bishop.
Whether they are painting murals, fundraising, or simply making “Shrinky Dinks,” NAHS means a lot to its members in different ways.
“NAHS means to me being able to collaborate with the people who have the same passion and love for art,” said newly elected club president Izzy Garrett.
The club provides a space for students to relax.
“It’s a club that has a lot of freedom to it,” Bishop said. “People can just let loose”.
Members and officers both express a desire and excitement to expand farther this year than ever, completing community projects and taking excursions outside of Watauga High School, all while allowing every single member to engage.
Community is one of the most important aspects to National Art Honors Society. They are looking forward to this school year as an opportunity to expand the club and help their community both inside and out.
