Jamie Wilson Awarded Teacher of the Year by Raelin Nolan

Jamie Wilson was named the Watauga High School Teacher of the Year following teacher nominations.

Beloved teacher Jamie Wilson has been named the Watauga High School Teacher of the Year. Ms. Wilson teaches AP United States History, AP Government and Politics, and United States History and is the head of the History Club.

The process to become Teacher of the Year happens at the faculty level, where faculty members nominate one another.

“Our administration asked teachers to nominate our peers, and then they sent out a ballot to our faculty and staff,” said Wilson. “Teachers were asked to vote on both Teacher of the Year and Staff Member of the Year.”

Because of this process, Wilson was honored to be chosen by the faculty at Watauga High School.

“There are so many incredible teachers on our faculty, and I have a tremendous amount of respect for each of them,” said Wilson. “It is a tremendous honor to represent the teachers of Watauga High School.”

To students, like former APUSH senior Leila Zwetsloot, it is obvious why Mrs. Wilson was chosen.

“Ms. Wilson deserves this award because she always puts the most effort into everything she does. Even the small projects get her full attention,” said Zwetsloot. “Additionally, she makes every single student feel important and heard.”

Current student, Sadie Buchanan, shares the same sentiments as Zwetsloot on her teacher, Mrs. Wilson.

“Mrs. Wilson deserves teacher of the year for so many reasons, and one of the biggest reasons is how supportive she is to all her students,” said Buchanan. “She is such a considerate teacher, and it’s something that I and everyone else in her class appreciates.”

Mrs. Wilson’s dedication to her students and their education stands out from the moment one enters her classroom.

“She builds personal relationships with students and that makes being in her class a lot easier, more fun, and less stressful,” said Buchanan.
