Over the basketball season, I heard much less talk of the women’s basketball team compared to the men’s team. I went to almost every basketball game for both the men’s and women’s teams, and the difference in the density of the crowds was astonishing.
The crowd for the women’s team was strangely thin compared to the packed crowd of most men’s games. This was surprising, as the women’s team had a rather impressive winning record. This got me thinking I wanted to do coverage of the women’s team. But then I realized that I don’t hear much about any other women’s team. So I decided to send out surveys to gather information about the attendance rates of men’s sporting events, women’s sporting events, and any sporting events overall.
Then, I sent out surveys to all the women’s athletic teams asking how, if at all, they had been treated differently as a female athlete. I’ve compiled all the results here for you to consider.
