Students and their families can receive flu shots at many locations in Watauga County, including the offices of Blue Ridge Pediatrics.
Since COVID has overtaken all of our lives, most other things have gone to the wayside. With all of this we still must prepare for the coming flu season. The flu virus mostly spreads between October to May.
“We encourage everyone 6 months and older to get a flu vaccine and ideally get it by the end of October to help protection to last through the winter season,” said Melissa Bracey, Director of Communications and Compliance at AppHealthCare.
The flu vaccine can help fight against the flu and make the sickness much less prominent.
According to Kelly Height, a spokesperson for the NCDHHS, “Vaccination against the flu can make the illness much milder and reduce the risk of more serious outcomes.”
A flu vaccine can be received at many of the locations that COVID-19 vaccines are administered.
“Flu vaccinations are available at hospitals, pharmacies, private medical offices, some federally qualified health care centers, and local health departments. COVID-19 vaccines may now be administered at the same time as other vaccines, including the flu vaccine, for those who need both,” stated Height.
In Watauga County, there are many places to receive a flu vaccine, including pharmacies and local healthcare providers.
“Our best protection against the flu and COVID-19 viruses are vaccines,” said Jennifer Greene, Health Director, AppHealthCare. “The vaccines help prevent severe illness, hospitalization and death. If you are unvaccinated, don’t wait to be vaccinated. Getting vaccinated is the best way to protect yourself, your friends, and your family.”
