With Open Arms
Holidays are a rather odd time of year.
Most people are used to seeing boxes and boxes, wrapped with silver and blue bows,
Walking into open arms.
The lights, the joy
The idea of spending time with family sounds delightful,
But what about all of the people
Who don’t have that definition of home.
While you’re shopping in November someone else might be preparing for December.
One family might be eating boxed Mac n cheese
Rather than homemade mashed potatoes.
For some people Christmas is just another time of year
As it’s become so commercialized, so expensive.
While you count down from ten on New Years
Someone else might be counting five things they can see
Four things they can touch
Three things they can hear
Two things to touch
And one thing to read
I think it’s important to keep your arms open to everyone this Christmas.
