For 10 years Watauga High School seniors, Chloe Wilson and Jordin Greene have been side by side on the softball field. Together they have grown from beginners to high school varsity softball players. Along with the unbreakable bond they have fostered over the years, they have also become incredible softball players. During their time playing together throughout high school, they were noticed by Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute (CCC&TI) and were both offered scholarships to play on their softball team.
Throughout the years Wilson and Greene have played on the high school team. They have become experienced in all types of positions on the field. Out of all of them, Wilson found her passion in one particular position.
“I am a catcher, so I’m usually telling people where to go on plays and yelling to the outfield for cut-offs and telling them things since I can see the whole field,” Wilson explained.
Greene has also played numerous positions and believes her role on the team to be utility, which means she can play all of the different positions. Greene has also created goals central to the team.
“My primary position is second base, but I may be needed in other positions this year,” said Greene. “I also try to be a leader and a supporter to my teammates.”
With her many years of experience, Wilson has been dedicated to her softball career in hopes of moving up to play on a college team.
“I have been in touch with the Caldwell Coach, Coach Scott for about four to five years now just because he coached my sister and he said I was always welcome to his team,” Wilson said.
Not only has Greene been offered a position at CCC&TI, but she also received an offer to play on the Surry Community College team. Wilson has also had other colleges reach out to her, but they ultimately decided CCC&TI was the right fit for them.
“I have had a bunch of other colleges interested in me at our showcase tournaments but I never followed up with them,” Wilson said. “I have been pretty set on Caldwell because I love their coach.”
Now that the two friends get to play on the same team once again, they are both excited to continue to play the sport that they have shared a passion for since they were kids.
“When I found out Jordin was going to Caldwell I was very excited to continue playing with one of my favorite teammates I’ve had,” said Wilson.
Greene is also grateful to play on the same team as many other players she has grown to know over the years.
“I am looking forward to playing with some of my old teammates on my travel team because none of us went to the same high school,” Greene said. ”I am also excited to continue playing with Chloe after high school.”
As Wilson and Greene prepare to put their skills to the test at CCC&TI they will always remember the hard work and dedication they put into their softball careers to earn this wonderful opportunity. After a decade of friendship on and off the field, their bond will now extend to the community college, where they will make an impact on the CCC&TI community while continuing to uphold their friendship.
“This means a lot to me because I have watched Chloe grow into an amazing softball player and teammate,” Greene said. “She is one of the most talented and funny players I have ever had the privilege of playing with.”
