Thanksgiving is a time to gather with family and friends, which may involve traveling over break to do so. Many Watauga students travel across the country and even to other countries over break, while others stay in Boone.
Senior Willard Kirkland was one student who traveled out of the country over break.
“I traveled to Chile in South America to see my sister,” said Kirkland. “We hiked on a volcano and did some fishing while we were there. My favorite thing about Thanksgiving is seeing family.”
Senior Lucy Bachman also traveled over Thanksgiving break, this time within the country.
“I traveled to Ohio over break to visit my family and my cousins,” Bachman said. “We went hiking and thrifting and spent a lot of time together inside just hanging out and playing card games and such.”
Time with her family and Thanksgiving traditions make Thanksgiving Bachman’s favorite holiday.
“It’s the best holiday and you get to eat like 20 meals in like two days,” said Bachman.
Lauren Patterson, senior, stayed in Boone over break and celebrated with those close to her.
“Over break, I spent time with friends and family!” Patterson said. “We stayed home all of the break, so it was very chill and low key. We also got a puppy over Thanksgiving break, so I got to spend time and play with her!”
Alongside Thanksgiving with her family, Lauren also celebrated with her friends with a Friendsgiving.
“At Friendsgiving, we ate and hung out,” said Patterson. “I feel like gathering with friends is super important because it gives you a sense of love and compassion. It also is something you will always cherish, especially as you get older and start moving on to the next chapter of your life.”
