Sofia McEvoy, a sophomore at Watauga School, is a versatile artist. Her sculptures, oil paintings, and sketches all demonstrate painstaking dedication to her craft. Though all her artistic creations are admirable, she prefers to focus her efforts on one.
"My favorite form of art is painting," McEvoy said. "It allows me to express myself, but still have control at the same time."
This art takes inspiration from McEvoy's heart, but can also echo the world around her.
"I find inspiration for my art from the music I listen to and the world around me," said McEvoy. "But sometimes Pinterest can inspire me to!"
The arts program at Watauga has helped McEvoy refine her artistic talents. She has taken Art 1 and is currently in Art 2, where she is learning how to use different techniques, such as painting a watercolor landscape.
"Watauga has helped me be a better artist because it has given me the chance to experiment with new mediums and different techniques," said McEvoy.
McEvoy plans on continuing to learn about the arts at Watauga, but is unsure if she will pursue a career involving art later on.
"I plan on taking more art classes at Watauga high such as Ceramics and Photography, but I have yet to decide what I will do in college," said McEvoy.
Regardless of whether McEvoy's paintings will one day grace MoMA, her passion for countless forms of visual art and dedication to her creations set her apart as this week's Artist of The Week.
