Pencil on Paper, Isabelle Garrett
Izzy Garrett is our fifth artist of the week, a senior at Watauga High School who is president of National Art Honors Society and a previous attendee of Governor's School at UNC Greensboro.
Garrett has been doing art since she was young and enjoys doing all kinds of paintings and drawings. Currently, Garrett is working on perfecting her skills in preparation for AP Art.
“I’ve been doing art since the 4th grade. I started to finally be better at something than my brother because he always won all the awards,” said Garrett.
The piece, (pictured,) is a drawing by Garrett of flowers that her favorite person gave her. It is one of the works she is most proud of, among other things created in art classes and independently.
“Art to me is very freeing. It makes me feel like I have control over something I’m passionate about,” said Garrett.
Garrett hopes to continue doing art beyond high school.
“I hope to pursue art as my future in some way,” said Garrett. “I don't have a clue as to what that looks like now but I’m committed to putting time and energy into finding out!”
