Recently there has been a new social media page known as WHS Food Review and the account posts reviews of foods that are served for breakfast and lunch. This page is run by an anonymous individual and the account has become increasingly popular among students. The account started in December and has grown to have more than 200 followers in the short time period it has been active. The account has been received well by students and the Powderhorn decided to reach out and figure out the entire story behind the account.
Q: Why did you create this account?
A: “This account was started entirely as a joke. Some friends and I would always rate the breakfast out of 10 and we one day tweeted at Gorden Ramsey to see if he would review the food in the cafeteria, obviously he didn’t respond so I decided to do it myself.”
Q: Why should people take this account seriously?
A: “They shouldn’t.”
Q: Why do you think reviewing cafeteria food is valuable?
A: “I think it has less to do with the fact that I review food and more to do with the fact that I'm not a drama account. At the beginning of every year, we see the same dumb Watauga drama accounts popping up and everyone gets sick of them immediately. The fact that there's a WHS account that isn't spreading rumors is almost surprising to people. I don't think reviewing food is why people think my account is valuable, I think it’s because there is finally a well-known and long-lasting page that is positive all around.”
Q: Some of the foods you have reviewed have received higher ratings than others, What cafeteria items would you recommend and why?
A: “For breakfast I would highly recommend the honey bun and make sure you grab one that's full of air, those are the warmest ones. For lunch I'd have to say the chicken filet, it's the closest thing you're gonna get to a Chick-fil-a sandwich and is actually better than some restaurant chicken sandwiches.”
Q: You have added a lot of side things to this account, like a Spotify playlist, and you have done promotions for another account. Why do you think this should have been added to your account and how do you think it has affected your followers?
A: “I didn’t add the playlist thinking that it would really affect my followers at all. One of my friends said it'd be a good idea so I decided to try it and it went over really well with everyone. The promotion was something I knew would happen eventually and especially with the person I was promoting for. I've talked to her a lot about promoting things for her and when she asked me to promote her art, I immediately jumped on it. I don't think anything really special has come from it, and if something has, I haven't noticed anything. The playlist was just a fun idea and the promotion was just a nice thing to do for someone.”
Q: You mentioned that this account was supposed to be a fun account for the student body to enjoy and talk about that wasn’t a drama account, so why do you feel it’s important to stay anonymous?
A: “Because this isn't a drama account, I didn't want people I have had personal issues with to still carry that over to this account. I wanted this account to be absolutely drama free and only be seen as whs.food_review.”
WHS Food Review has become a frequent topic in classes, and people often discuss the new reviews to see if they agree or not. This account has brought a lot of people together and has put a positive light on school related accounts. Certainly the account has more in store for avid followers. It doesn’t look to be coming to an end.
“My goal is to review every food at Watauga Highschool!” says the creator of the WHS Food Review account.
