Addison Cohen is a freshman at Watauga High School. Through years of hard work and dedication to the sport of tennis, she has elevated her game exponentially. Cohen is the number one ranked player in Women's varsity tennis, while only being a freshman at the high school. This feat is relatively unheard of, as it usually takes time to slowly climb up team rankings in Women's Varsity Tennis.

Although Cohen is extraordinary at the game of tennis, it isn't the sport she played all of her life. Cohen has played a variety of different sports throughout, such as basketball and soccer, before eventually making the move over to tennis.

"Originally, I played a couple different sports. I played basketball and a little bit of soccer,” said Cohen. “But I've been playing tennis for around six years now.”

Addison's eventual switchover to the sport of tennis didn't come without help. Cohen's parents encouraged her to swap sports. Cohen's family advocating for the switch helped Cohen become the amazing athlete she is today.

“Both of my parents pushed me towards tennis, and my father and I eventually started taking lessons,” said Cohen. “I've been playing tennis ever since.”

Cohen is only a freshman, which means she still has three years to build and improve her game. She intends to play all four years of Women's Varsity and might play travel tennis at the end of the school season.

“I intend to play all four years of high school,” said Cohen. “I don't play for any travel teams currently, but after the season, I might look to join one.”

Cohen looks up to many players, but one significant figure in her life is American professional tennis player Coco Gauff. Cohen loves to learn and mirror the game of Gauff to elevate her play.

"I look up to Coco Gaugh,” said Cohen. “I think she's an amazing tennis player and has a similar playing style to mine. I like to watch and try to emulate her game through my play. She hits hard, so I try to take notes to be the best possible player I can be."

Outside of tennis, Cohen loves to spend time with friends, as well as baking and hiking.

"I enjoy baking in my free time. I also love to walk and hike whenever I can,” Cohen said.

Addison Cohen has an amazing achievement not many can claim. Through hard work and practice, she has become a freshman phenomenon.
