Watauga High School’s men's soccer team just finished a memorable season. The season consisted of 23 games. With 9 wins, 13 losses, and 1 tie, the team carried out a season full of memories. Throughout the season, they faced challenges, recognized players, and created many traditions.
Kyle Painter, a senior at Watauga and a goalie on the team, felt like the team was more family than actual teammates.
“My favorite part of being on the soccer team here at Watauga was the family and friendship that sparked from it,” said Painter. “I became closer friends with some guys I wouldn’t ever really expect to be friends with otherwise.”
The relationships on the team were also important to Brayden Collins, a senior at Watauga.
“My favorite aspect of being on the team is the positive atmosphere. The coaches are all amazing, and care about us as young men more than soccer players,” said Collins. “We all work hard every day while still having fun. The soccer team truly is a brotherhood, and I couldn't be more thankful to have had this group for the past four years.”
Some traditions were also formed throughout this season.
“Oftentimes, before home games, we would all go to Subway and sit out and enjoy our food,” Painter said.
When traditions came into play, Collins enjoyed a sillier one.
“On our way out of the locker room before we played, we all rubbed our team duck named Ice,” Collins said. “Ice has been in the locker room for many years now and was once bathed in the finest of Gucci colognes. He brings us luck and makes us play well with his magical powers.”
Throughout the season, the team created memories and bonded into a family.
