To finish out the long school year, Watauga High School has organized the last day, June 1st, to be a Field Day!
“We’re excited to have 5 giant inflatables (bouncy houses), giant yard games (Jenga), cornhole, and other outdoor games,” said Assistant Principal Rachel Shepherd.
Students will have the chance to relax, talk with peers and enjoy their last day of school with exciting activities provided by administrators.
“Students will report to 1st block for a few minutes, then go to Advisory. From Advisory, students will be called to the football field by grade level,” said Shepherd.
We have included the schedule below:
Friday June, 1st, Schedule
8:30- 1st Block
8:55 - Report to Advisory
9:00 - Senior Advisors Outside
9:30 - Junior Advisors Outside
10:45 - Upperclassmen Back Inside

“Upperclassmen will have the most time outside, but everyone will have at least an hour to play,” said Shepherd.
Due to the pandemic in 2020, field day was put on hold for the safety of students and faculty.
“We had a field day pre-COVID, but with some of the struggles we’ve had over the last few years, we haven’t been able to host another one,” said Shepherd.
Teachers and students have put in a lot of work this school year, and with exam week coming to an end, Watauga High School wanted to reward the hard work everyone has contributed.
“Several teachers commented that field day was so much fun and gave them such a great opportunity to really spend quality time with our students,” said Shepherd. “We really wanted to be able to do that again!”
Field day will take place on the football field. When not on the field, students must report to their advisory classroom.
“We thought it would be a nice way to finish out a wonderful but challenging school year,” said Shepherd.
Administrators say they would like to discuss the possibility of Field Day returning next year with the next high school principal after Dr. Blanton leaves to become the Assistant Superintendent and Human Resources Director.
“We would love to be able to continue this in years to come,” said Shepherd.
