Watauga 10 Focuses on Sports at Watauga

This year the Watauga Journalism class unveils a brand new publication called the Watauga 10. This new publication showcases Watauga athletics year-round.

It highlights the top plays made by our very own Pioneers and gives in-depth interviews with student-athletes. Think of it as ESPN, but for Watauga High. Can’t make it to every game? Check out the Watauga 10.

“Watauga 10 is an exciting contribution to our school, connecting the student body to the student-athletes in more ways than just from the stands to the field,” said junior Micah Duvall. “I hope the Watauga 10 becomes a lasting way students can interact with each other and rally around the school.”

One of the primary reasons for the founding of the Watauga 10 was to make highlight videos for students who couldn’t attend the games. Sometimes the away games are quite far, and as hype as Pioneer athletics are, it’s not always possible to attend every sporting event. The Watauga 10 is working to make highlight videos for varsity sports, but we need your help. Athletes, make sure to send your sports highlights to thewatauga10@gmail.com or share them with our Instagram page @watauga10 to get featured in a video!

“I’m excited about the Watauga 10 because it's something new and different,” said Trey Thompson, 12. “Students don’t always see media surrounding Watauga sports, so we’re trying to change that. We’re going to make it possible for lots of people at the high school to be on camera and be seen by the rest of the community.

In addition to highlight videos, check out our Instagram page where we post loads of fun content and keep you updated on how the Pioneers perform at each game. You can also explore our youtube page (TheWatauga10 - go subscribe) where highlight videos will be posted and Season 1 of Watauga Football The Vlog is being released.

“Our goal is to highlight ALL sports and keep the student body up to date on athletics and games,” said Davis Hunt, 12. “A lot of the main sports get attention but some of the smaller sports like track and tennis have a lot of success that goes unrecognized. It will also be cool to be involved in sports because, as an athlete, I know that many individuals on teams have success that isn’t always appreciated.”
