Ethan Regan, a 21 year old singer and songwriter based in Charlotte, NC, released his latest EP, “honey honey hone”’, on August 5. Starting in April, Regan gradually released singles from the EP leading up to the release. Since 2019, Regan has released 20 singles, 3 EPs, and 3 albums. Over the past 6 years, Regan has developed a small yet loyal fan base. This past May, Regan announced that he will be touring this fall.
The “i almost graduated tour” will be kicking off on September 19 and spanning to December 9. Regan will be touring through 8 different countries, and 23 states in the US. To celebrate his achievements, he released, “honey honey honey”. This EP holds 6 beautiful songs. I picked my top 3 favorites that stuck out to me.
Being the second song on the EP, “spaceman” quickly became my favorite of the six. The track of the album has a leading banjo that sets the mood for the song from the first note. The tune of the song presents itself with a chill and mellow vibe that is the perfect melody to keep a listener hooked and at ease. While the musical elements of this song are a highlight, my favorite part of this song are most definitely the lyrics. In my interpretation, “spaceman” has lyrical themes of wrestling with feelings of still wanting someone once you’ve broken up or wanting someone you can’t have. Combined with the mellow banjo, this song is the perfect piece to describe the complex feelings of the slowness in recovering from heartbreak.
My second favorite song on this EP is “decay.” This song kicks off the track with stunning and enchanting vocals from Regan himself. An opener like this presents the perfect tone to a song that also displays beautiful emotions, foreshadowing the message of the song. In my opinion this song's lyrics present the emotion of still feeling bitter towards a situation after it is resolved in the eyes of outside opinions.
My third and final favorite song in the EP is “get by”. This song has a more sad and hopeless sound, rather than the upbeat and ominous moods of the other 2 songs. With a slower pace, it shows proper representation of the message that the song, in my opinion, is trying to explain. The message behind the lyrics to me feel as if it is a plea, trying to explain to the listeners the struggles that are behind trying to overcome something that defined you for so long. This song tells a story, and explains the complexity of the emotions felt during grief and overcoming.
When listening to the EP, it is so relevant that Regan put so much effort and love into it. I encourage you to listen to the whole EP, while paying special attention to “spaceman”, “decay”, and “get by”. All six songs present the most beautiful and unique vibes, making “honey honey honey”, in my opinion, the perfect EP to end the summer with.
