"The Water-Lily Pond" a poem by Julianne Bagley

ree

Claude Money, The National Gallery, London

"The Water-Lily Pond"

All types of people

Have crossed your bridge

And looked over the side

Into the Pond

The pond field with lilies

Surrounded by lush vegetation

Wishes have been made

In your water

That is murky

Like a Foggy Day

Vibrant spring colors

Reflect back

As the people watch

Fish swim around the pond

The water hides the wishes

People pass by with no idea

Of the secret hopes and dreams

That the water holds

It is the pond's job to hold on

To these wishes as

The people who

Crossed the bridge

Wait for them to come true
