The Man to Beat: Ladé Oguntoyinbo

Senior Ladé Oguntoyinbo is emerging as an outstanding athlete for Watauga High School’s Indoor Track and Field team this winter athletics season, yet this is not the first sport that Oguntoyinbo has excelled in. He participates in two more sports, Soccer and Outdoor Track and Field.

Being a three-sport athlete, Oguntoyinbo is accustomed to the vigor that is required to be successful. With full academic days at the high school, he demonstrates discipline in both school and sports.

“The three sports are kind of spread out between fall, winter, and spring," said Oguntoyinbo. "I just mostly do my school work, then, after school until 6:30 or 7:00 PM, I have practice."

Even during the offseason and on free days, Oguntoyinbo manages to find time to improve. The summers are a tool for Oguntoyinbo to stay in peak physical condition for his season ahead.

“Especially on days that there is no practice, I try to do my own thing to stay in shape,” said Oguntoyinbo. “I also like to use my summers: use my time to not gain so much weight so I can come back in the fall and do what I do.”

Oguntoyinbo favors soccer over track, but he utilizes aspects of both to perform at a high level in all three seasons.

“Definitely soccer,” Oguntoyinbo cited as his favorite sport. “I started track not too recently. They definitely take aspects from each other that help me get better.”

Oguntoyinbo has earned significant achievements in soccer, being named All-Conference Offensive Player of the Year and securing a place on the All-Region team. He hopes to continue paving his path to stardom with All-Conference spots in both Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field.

“Last year, I was the conference leader in the 100 and 200 [meter races] and I feel like I can definitely do that again,” said Oguntoyinbo.

Through the difficulty of the sports that Oguntoyinbo plays, he is aiming for the record books at Watauga High School.

“Mostly, my races are the 100 meter and the 200 meter,” said Oguntoyinbo. “I'm getting pretty close to a school record.”
