Sustainability Club to Hold Art Contest

The Watauga High School Sustainability Club is a club working to make our high school and the High Country community a more sustainable place. This year, the club is hosting an art contest open to any WHS student. There are two categories contestants can submit to and a five dollar entry fee.

“Contestants can submit any form of art into two categories: Practice and Purpose. The practice category would be anything made from recycled materials and the Purpose category is art with a sustainable message," said Leila Zwetsloot, junior and officer of the outreach committee. "There is a $5 entry fee that can be paid through MySchoolBucks and all of the proceeds will go towards the solar panel construction.”

There will be two winners, one from the Practice category and one from the Purpose category, who will be decided by three judges.

"The judges for this contest are going to be Mr. Koontz, Ms. Gray, and Ms. Ruggiero. They will be deciding both of the winners," said Zwetsloot.

Recently, the Sustainability Club designed hats and have been selling them at various places, including a local coffee shop, Hatchet Coffee.

"Our hats have a thirty dollar value, and the chosen winners will each receive one. Potentially, you could get a thirty dollar hat for only five dollars," said Zwetsloot.

All submissions will be due by February 24th. For more information and the link to submit your work you can visit the Sustainability Club instagram page: @whs_sustainability_club
