Student Council introduced a new spirit tradition to Watauga High School this year. Winter Wonder Week is occurring December 11-16 and consists of many events, such as themes to dress up for each day, an App Ski Mountain raffle, and a dodgeball tournament on December 16 that will occur during school hours.
Rylee Councill, a senior, is a member of Student Council and has helped plan this event. She explained how the dodgeball tournament will work.
"The dodgeball tournament starts on Tuesday, December 13 after school, and then the final four will play during school Friday, December 16 with the entire student body given the opportunity to watch," said Councill.
This is a unique event because Student Council usually does not host events during the last week before Christmas break due to exams. Since exams are occurring after Christmas this year, Winter Wonder Week has been added as an event.
¨Because of exams being after break, we felt it was a great way to boost morale,¨ Councill said. "Another big difference is the dodgeball tournament. Many students expressed interest in one during Homecoming and so we thought this would be a great time to incorporate it.¨
The money generated from Winter Wonder Week will go to the families that received money from Mr. WHS.
¨We have also incorporated raising money for Mr. WHS into the dodgeball tournament by giving all of the teams registration fees to the beneficiaries of this year's show,¨ Councill said.
