Tasha Adams is not only the Watauga Women's Golf Coach but also a mentor to her team. Adams has been the Women’s Golf Coach at Watauga for five years and has extensive high school and college level golf experience. Her coaching approach is driven by her passion for helping others.

Not only does her passion for the sport reflect in her player's success, but Adams’s desire to inspire her players is what makes her an amazing coach.

“I love helping people, whether it’s coaching or working," said Adams. "Just having a servant's heart is really what I love.”

Jamie Wilson, a history teacher at Watauga High School, coached Adams during her four years as a student there. Adams went on to play golf at Wingate University and returned during her senior year of college to assist Wilson as an assistant coach. When Wilson stepped down, she presented the position to Adams.

“I prayed over it and really thought about it," said Adams. "God opened the door for me to take over."

Adams became the head coach of the Women's Golf Team at Watauga High School in 2019.  Her love for the game continually motivates her to excel in her leadership role.

“When I was in college, I really loved golf, I saw it as an outlet,” said Adams. “I can go to golf and put the rest of the world aside.”

This season, Adams' team experienced a mix of triumphs and setbacks. Their successful season took an unexpected turn on September 27 when Hurricane Helene hit Watauga County, destroying the golf course that the team routinely practiced. Although this was going to disrupt the rest of the season for the team, Adams’s primary concern was about her players’ wellbeing.

“It was rough. Everybody during the hurricane was distraught. I called and checked up on each of my players,” said Adams. “It's nice to have a bond with my team so that I can be personal with them. I have the ability to check up on them whenever because my heart goes beyond having a relationship during the golf season. It goes to having a relationship with each player.”

For Adams, success to her is more than the numbers on a scorecard. While many coaches tend to favor a player based on their performance, Adams tries to see beyond that. She wants to know each player as individuals.

“You can never be coached enough,” said Adams. “I'm always looking for the next thing to be better, not just myself as a coach, but the next thing to better my girls too.”
