Pumpkins are a staple of all things autumn, and different people have different traditions surrounding the plant. While carving pumpkins is the favorite seasonal craft, painting them can be a great alternative project for those who would prefer not to get their hands dirty scraping out seeds and pulp. Below are some tips on how to get your painted pumpkin to stand out:
A smaller canvas can be beneficial.
Smaller pumpkins are easier to paint. It’s just a fact. Smaller pumpkins allow you to be more creative with details and color schemes, and can easily be placed anywhere for decorative purposes.
Use bright acrylic paints.
Acrylic paint sticks best to the outside of a pumpkin and will apply a good amount of coverage without too many coats. However, when painting your pumpkin, expect to need multiple layers of paint, to get the brightest, most vibrant finish.
You can use fake pumpkins.
If you really want your pumpkins to be easy to paint and bring out more color, white, fake pumpkins are the way to go. These can be bought online for fairly cheap, and ensure that your color choices are displayed brightly and that your designs come out as you imagined them.
Use a sealant for outside displays.
To protect your painted pumpkins from the elements, spraying on a layer of sealant after the paint has dried is very beneficial. With a properly sealed pumpkin, you can set up displays outside without the fear of rainstorms or extreme temperatures eroding your pumpkins away.
Add some extra decorations.
For inside or outside displays, using fake leaf garland or other fall-inspired decorations can give a warm, comforting feel to a room or a deck. Coordinating paint colors with these extra add-ons can create a beautiful arrangement.
Happy Pumpkin Painting!
