Christmas movies are a staple of the holiday season. We all have our favorites that we like to cozy up and watch. Some might love “Elf”, “The Polar Express”, “It’s a Wonderful Life”, or even “Diehard”. This year, Netflix has some new additions that might just become a new tradition in your family. From romantic films to animated movies and music specials, Netflix has it all for the upcoming holidays.

Hallmark is usually the best place to find cheesy movies during the holiday season, but Netflix has decided to give them a run for their money. While these Christmas movies tend to go for the usual trope of a big-city girl returning to her hometown and falling in love with a small-town guy, Netflix decided to take a different approach.

New movie, “Hot Frosty” follows a widowed woman whose scarf brings a snowman to life. The snowman wins the hearts of the town and heals the woman’s broken heart. This movie is perfect for anyone who loves a Hallmark movie. It has the perfect combination of cheesy scripts with a touching storyline. This story does seem to have some unnecessary plotlines, but it does an excellent job at capturing the magic of Christmas.

If you’re looking for something more musical for this holiday season, Sabrina Carpenter’s “A Nonsense Christmas” is the perfect choice. It’s a holiday-musical-comedy special that features some of her hit Christmas music and popular covers. Featuring musical guests Chappel Roan, Shania Twain, Tyla, and Kali Uchis help create magical duets of some of the most popular Christmas songs. Other celebrity guests, such as Sean Astin and Cara Delevingne, create comedic skits about love, gift-giving, and other hilarious Christmas-time stories. The special keeps you entertained from the start to the finish and it’s everything you would want out of a holiday special. It intertwines the classic Christmas cliches and comedic flair Carpenter usually brings to her performances.

“That Christmas” is a movie for the whole family. It is an animated film that follows the town of Wellington, New Zealand, and the days leading up to Christmas. The film addresses multiple families in this town and their stories. The main character is a young boy who is new to town and is experiencing his first Christmas after his parents separated, and unexpectedly falls head over heels for a girl at his school. The love interest and her twin sister are polar opposites. One is an anxious “goody two shoes", while the other is rebellious, and may not make it on the nice list. The third storyline follows multiple families. The parents have to go to a wedding the day before Christmas and get stranded by a snowstorm, leaving the kids by themselves to create their perfect Christmas. Another story follows Santa’s perspective of delivering presents to this snow-covered seaside town.  This movie perfectly encapsulates the Christmas spirit and emphasizes the importance of friends and family during this season. The movie’s animations captivate and the soundtrack features some of the most-loved Christmas tunes. “That Christmas” is truly heartwarming and overall a great watch.

With the upcoming Christmas break, we will all have a lot of time to watch some Christmas movies and any of these are perfect for getting you in the holiday spirit.
