Narrative Poem

The darkness gives way to light.

Morning comes and I feel different, yet still the same.

I’m fully charged and ready to go.

Ready for everything, anything.

So many choices

So bright is my screen this morning, full brightness

100%

Mom stares and I feel her touch, her selection

The weather icon sends me spinning...open

Sunny and cool, you’re welcome mom.

Each square like a life jacket

Keeping the day afloat

Snaps of life documented, sent

The familiar sound of dings and rings

Telling me how life is lived

Darkness deep drop, pocket filled

So this is what the cold hard cupholder brings

Connecting streaming beat

The beat booms out of me

My sister sings along, you’re welcome girl

I flash 8:20 am

Late again, not the bookbag again

It tickles, the waves of vibration

Ok, dad, message received

I wear 3:30 proudly with the sunshine my glare

60%

Numbers, stats, my help for another’s battery gone

4 letters strong, ESPN powered up

Stats, players, who won...you’re welcome dad

When do I help myself? When do I get my turn?

Life moves in an insta...gram

Their hands need me, my lights, my squares

The tickling waves, the constant pressing, wears me down

20%

The expectations, the needs

The worldwide ride

I feel the looming sleep mode coming

Low, low, battery low

1%

Feeling satisfied, needed, calendar wide open

Plugged in for another day’s play

I’m ready for it

Let’s go
