Love Run Returns February 18

Updated: Feb 12, 2023

The Love Run at Watauga High School is returning in 2023 for the first time since 2018 on February 18th. The Love Run is a 5k to help raise money for The High Country Breast Cancer Foundation in honor of Elayne Bishop. Hatherley Armfield, sophomore class president, is excited for the return of the 5k and has a big role in planning this event.

"Sophomore class president is head of the Community Committee so my committee is in charge of planning the whole event" said Armfield. "Everyone has been really helpful, so I'm very excited for the return of this run."

Elayne Bishop was a teacher and big part of the High Country community until her passing in April, 2019. The Love Run initially started to support her and her family throughout her battle of breast cancer.

"A few years ago in 2018, Watauga Student Council started the Love Run while Elayne Bishop was still alive and it was just to help her with her treatments and support her, as she was an educator at Watauga High School, and she had a big impact on our community," said Armfield.

The choice to bring back the Love Run was an easy one for Student Council because the council wants to bring awareness and raise money for those struggling with cancer.

"This year we are bringing it back as a way to remember her and raise money for those fighting cancer," said Armfield.

If you are interested in this event and would like to support our community, you can sign up until the morning of February 17th.

"You can scan any QR code posted around the school or on Watauga Student Council's instagram, and it will take you to the website where you can find additional information and the registration," said Armfield.

The race registration is $10 and $20 if you purchase a long sleeve shirt. All proceeds will go to support The High Country Breast Cancer Foundation.

“We are excited for the opportunity to host a great event that will help support many members of the High Country community, and we hope that you will join us!" said Armfield.
