The holiday season has passed, full of festivities and planning. Between traveling, shopping, family meals, and spending time with friends, it's a wonderful season spent with loved ones. What I enjoy most about this time of year is the new album releases from my favorite artists. To preface, I’m not the biggest fan of holiday music, however, I do like Koe Wetzel, which sparked my interest when this album dropped.

Ropyr Madison, known as Koe Wetzel, is a country rock artist from Texas. He was a linebacker at Tarleton State for a while before deciding to pursue a musical career. His most famous song is "February 28, 2016", where he candidly sings about his public intoxication on that infamous day. Wetzel is recognized for his openness in revealing his past choices, though they aren’t deemed appropriate.

Wetzel’s  include a few genres, mainly country, but he intermixes grunge with country. This unique fusion creates his “outlaw” country style. When I listened to his newest album,  “Koe Wetzel Presents… Wetzel’s Wonderland Chapter 2” I felt like he stayed true to his style, especially in track 4, “Silver Bells”.

The start of this album felt very organic. It starts with a fire crackling and you can hear a rocking chair, and the southern drawl in his voice creates a gentle start, with no hurry in his words. There is also soft guitar strumming as he sets the stage for his album with the opening track “Twas The Night Before Christmas”.

Despite hearing these songs many times throughout the years, hearing Wetzel sing them just sounds so interesting because of his unique style. I think overall, Wetzel’s vocal range combined with the drums were complimentary throughout the album. The transitions between tracks were great. They were smooth and kept the album’s flow going.

If I were to listen to Christmas music I would pick this album. For fans of country music and Christmas music alike, this album is a win. So if you aren't ready to let go of the holiday music just yet, check out this release.
