Senior JB Harris is a three-year Men’s Golf Team member. Originally a way to fill time during the pandemic, golf has become an integral part of his high school life.
“I've been playing for a couple of years now,” said Harris. “I got into it during lockdown and just stuck with it ever since.”
The golf team is a great place for people to improve their game, but it also allows students to meet new people and create new experiences. Through golf, Harris has developed not only a lifelong skill, but lifelong memories.
“I play golf because it’s a great way to meet all sorts of people and it is something I can play for the rest of my life,” said Harris.
Harris hopes to improve his golf game this season, but not just in an athletic sense.
“Golf is a very mental game,” Harris said. “I hope to improve my mental aspect by remaining more consistent and composed, leading to my success on the course.”
Going into the new season, Harris has high hopes for the team this year.
“The goal for this season is to win the conference and improve throughout the season,” said Harris. “We haven’t won conference in 50 years, but we’ve been close the past two years, so I think it’s the year we can do it.’’
With his time on the team coming to a close after this season, Harris reflects on some of his favorite experiences with his teammates.
“Eating with the team after matches and getting to really know everyone,” are some of his favorite memories, Harris said.
As a senior, this is the last year Harris is playing with this team, but that doesn’t mean he won’t continue to further his golf career.
“I plan to play for the rest of my life, whether it be small tournaments or just for fun,” Harris said.
