Jake Henderson: Sharing Christmas Spirit

Growing up in the high country, there is a family-owned Christmas tree farm almost everywhere. Many farm employees are high school students from Watauga High School. Students take the opportunity to make money while doing good for the community.

Junior Jake Henderson works at a local farm named C and J Choose and Cut Christmas trees. The family feels that these farms seem to drive students to want to continue working there each year.

“We all have a bond and it is really fun to help be a part of all of our customer's Christmas,” said Henderson.

Although not everyone who works at C and J is family, “everyone who works at C and J is treated as if we were family,” said Henderson.

High school students use the opportunity to gain extra money but in reality, the drive to give families the best holiday experience is rewarding.

“It feels really special when you know a family poured everything into the Christmas tree farm,” said Henderson.

The Christmas feeling comes to life when a family goes to get their Christmas tree, but it also comes with lots of hard work. The farm has even that worked out to make the experience worth it.

“When it gets busy, it gets hard to get everyone's tree to their car really fast so we have some vendors, Mr. and Mrs. Claus there and concessions with coffee, apple cider, hot chocolate, and even meals and treats,” said Henderson.
