The dress shop in Ms. Irving’s room was organized by Interact Club and Ms. Irving’s Interior Design students.
Homecoming 2022 was a wonderful and thrilling event for the entire student body. There are many people to thank for the amazing experience, for example Student Council and the faculty, but there is one group of people we should really thank: the organizations running the Homecoming dress shop.
The dress shop is a place where students can select dresses, suits, and accessories with no cost. Watauga High School teacher and club sponsor Susan Irving worked with the Interact Club to create the dress shop for the school. Irving wanted to give these previously donated outfits to all Watauga students in an orderly fashion.
¨When we did the Prom dress shop it was so successful,” said Irving. “I thought my interior design students and the Interact Club could work together to create this commercial space with free outfits for our students.¨
While the dress shop had many kinds of dresses, they also had suits and ties as well. The shop, which was held in Irving’s classroom, was open from September 6th through September 9th and available for all grades.
“We had about twenty five students that took advantage of the Homecoming dress shop,” said Irving.
Interact members see the importance of the dress shop as well. They see it as a way to make sure all students can attend school functions.
“It is a really affordable way for kids who might not be able to afford a dress,” said Natalie Fitch, sophomore and Interact Club member.
The dress shop is the sort of activity that makes Interact one of the largest and most active service organizations at Watauga High School.
“I joined Interact Club because I thought it would be a really good way to meet new people as a freshman and a good way to be involved in the school and the community,” said Fitch.
Since the Homecoming and Prom dress shops were such a success, there will be another dress shop held in the Spring for Prom 2023.
