During times like these, it is very easy to compare normal life to the lives of characters we see portrayed in our movies. We as high school students are locked in a complicated plot, functioning as the main characters of our own movies. It is clear that this school year has already been packed with chaotic, fulfilling, and movie-like experiences. So what movies best symbolize high school for our own Watauga High students?
The Watauga Powderhorn staff asked students, “If high school were a movie what movie would it be and why?” The responses I received ranged from heartwarming movies from our childhood all the way up to classic horror movies.
Sophomore Leif Mortenson describes high school as “Any Hallmark movie, nobody really likes them but you have to watch them every year anyway.” In some instances high school can even be just as cheesy as any Hallmark movie.
A Junior here at Watauga depicts their high school experience as “Lemonade Mouth, because there will always be bumps in the road but when we meet the right people and make the right friends life will always be just a little bit easier.” From my experiences I find this to be extremely accurate.
Sophomore Matthew Pulcini says that his time at high school so far has reminded him of “National Lampoon's Van Wilder.” Maybe some students do have the confidence and charm similar to Van Wilder.
Another response I received was “Airbud, because don’t we all feel like a strange 2000s movie that everyone vaguely remembers?” The 2000s seemed to have gone by so quickly, but every once in a while high school gives you flashbacks from the eccentric time period many of us grew up in.
But, my favorite and most relatable answer would have to be “Clueless, because a lot of the time I have no idea what I am doing, but somehow things still manage to work out for me.”
High school is a crazy time in our lives if that has not already been proven by this year. Although there are many challenges and a lot of the time we may feel entirely clueless, it is ultimately one of those movies that we will constantly want to have on replay.
