Twins Cole and Carlton Horine advance their football careers as the pair commit to East Tennesee State University (ETSU).

Cole was the first of the two who, on February 3, committed. Cole’s position on the team is set to be a Safety/Hybrid Linebacker.

“They are taking me on as a safety/bandit. A bandit is kind of a hybrid outside linebacker," said Cole. “My position could change once I get there and develop some.“

The recruitment of both players came over the summer. They even reached out to the different coaches of the Buccaneer's football team.

“My recruiting process with ETSU started this past summer. I reached out to a couple of coaches by text, and we went on a campus tour and got to meet with them in person,” said Cole. “We also got to go on a game visit this fall to talk to coaches more and see some of the facilities.”

Cole then spoke about his coach, Ryan Habich, and how he helped him with this opportunity.

“After it’s all said and done it really makes you realize that a lot of opportunities were opened up because I had a coach that knew the ins and outs of the recruiting world and was willing to help me,” said Cole.

Carlton, who committed to ETSU on February 5, also gave credit to his coaches for contributing to his success.

“All of the coaches at Watauga were very supportive of my post-high school athletic goals,” Carlton said. “Coach Habich helped out a lot with recruiting. He had us go to camps and visits, and was always very persistent in calling coaches for us.”

Carlton is also supposed to play the same position as Cole, a safety hybrid.

“Right now they are taking me as a safety/outside linebacker,“ said Carlton.

Carlton spent the recruitment process with his brother and went on many trips to the university during the summer.

“As soon as I got there it felt like home,” said Carlton. “My second visit was a game visit last fall, and then they offered us a PWO in February.”

The twins did not mind going to the same college for football and being brothers did not affect their decision process. They had similar tastes in their selection of a college and that is what lead them to choose ETSU.

“Cole and I didn’t particularly care if we went to the same college or not, but we both ended up liking ETSU the most by far,” said Carlton.

Cole agrees with his brother about the college choice.

“I think that Carlton and I were okay if we went to different places, but we both thought it would be a cool opportunity,” said Cole. “We both were honestly looking for the same things in a college so I wasn’t surprised that our top choice was the same.”
