The Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) club at Watauga High School will be holding a Prayers and Praise festival on Saturday, April 29 from 4-6 p.m. in the WHS main gym.
The festival will have live music from the Radiate Youth band along with speakers.
"This event is basically a little worship session for Jesus," said Montgomery Taylor, a sophomore and a member of the FCA Student Leadership Team. "We're going to have a ton of music, two or three people sharing their testimony, and we're also going to have the pastor from Laurel Springs church come to share a message."
Taylor is working to help promote the festival through social media and flyers around the school.
"I help promote the event on all of our social media, get it to the public, and help make and finalize the fliers you might see around the school,” said Taylor. “Karsyn Lee made the flyer this year and I and a few others approved it and sent it to the printer.”
While the WHS FCA club has not held this event before, it is not uncommon for other FCA clubs to hold this type of festival.
"Other schools FCAs do this event all the time and one night Coach Yandel said 'why not us?' Coach Phelps backed him up. Phelps has actually been to one at another school,” said Taylor. “So the idea was introduced at our monthly SLT meeting and we got to work.”
Regularly, this event is held on a football field, but they want to be sure that nothing can interfere with their plans.
"This is the first time that WHS FCA has held this event and we’re super excited for it! The event is usually called Fields of Faith and held on the football field but since the weather is still a little weird and unsure, we decided to have it in the gym,” said Taylor. “If it’s a hit and people want to keep doing it, we’ll try and put it on the football field next year.”
WHS FCA is hoping for a big turnout and the festival is open to everyone, not just athletes. To find out more information, or to get involved with the club, you can visit their Instagram page @wataugafca.
