This Christmas is going to be one to remember, that's for sure. If you ask any child what their favorite holiday is they are almost bound to say Christmas. Once a year there are people all over the world with great big smiles on their faces. Christmas is a time of joy and hope. This year especially people will need that hope. With everything going on in the world and this year, the Christmas spirit will be greater than years past.
In years past the parade always took place on King Street and afterwards everyone would head up to the Jones house. While celebrating the tree lighting, Watauga citizens could enjoy cookies and cider. Of course this year everything will look different. The Christmas cheer and joy will all look the same. But with Covid-19 there is a big change of plans.
This year's Christmas Parade is presented by Watauga County Parks and Recreation, on Saturday December 12th. The way that the parade will work is people attending the parade will stay inside their cars. Floats and entertainers will be set up in the Watauga Community Recreation center in Boone, NC. You will drive by and get to watch from the comfort of your own car. The event will last from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The exact address is 231 Complex Drive, Boone, NC. This is going to be unlike any type of drive-thru you may have ever been to.
Don’t forget, even though Christmas is spent with family and friends, that doesn’t mean the Covid-19 is not a thing. Remember to stay socially distanced, masked up, and most of all safe. The staff of the Powderhorn hopes everyone has a lovely holiday.
