Nate Farrington, an incredibly talented sophomore at Watauga High School, is our artist of the week.
Farrington is a gifted Watauga student who has been making pants and other types of clothes. His specialty is in pants, which he obtains the materials for and sews himself.
“I love making jeans! I've made a few shirts, but I've mostly made pants. I love every process of making a pair of pants,” said Farrington.
A big focus of Farrington's products is sustainability, shown in his choice of fabric he uses for the pants he makes.
“Usually, I use selvedge denim, which is the most sustainable type of denim, and the people producing and using the machines are getting livable wages, unlike most modern denim fabrics,” said Farrington. “For my art final project, I got to make a pair of pants Watauga themed [shown above]. It wasn't my best work, but I learned a lot and got me interested in making pants. I also have a lot of inspirations online of people that helped me learn how to sew, and I still take a lot of inspiration from them.¨
Farrington has sold many of his products to other Watauga students as well as some locals, although he wishes to sell his products online at some point as well.
“My favorite pair I've made is definitely the pair I made for my best friend, Declan. I put my all and tried my hardest to make the perfect jeams for him,” said Farrington. “It is definitely the best work I've ever done. I'm very proud of them, and it makes me even more proud when he wears them almost every single day.”
It is clear that Farrington takes pride in his thoughtfully made clothes and puts much love and effort into it.
