Firelight Candle’s owner, Lucy Strickland, began her business in 2020 handcrafting all-natural candles as a creative outlet, selling them in the mountains of North Carolina. This year, Strickland and her husband decided that their candle-making needed a permanent home. And what pairs better with the warm aroma of candles than books? Recently, the Stricklands opened their first storefront, Firelight Book and Candle, in Blowing Rock, NC.

I made my journey out to the beautiful town of Blowing Rock on a chilly winter evening. As soon as I entered the building, I was welcomed into a cozy space with a wonderful aroma. I was quickly embraced by the nostalgia of the holidays. I made my way over to the candle section, which also held natural soaps, sprays, and other handmade items.

Despite being both a candle and bookstore, the store is filled with a variety of books, from bestsellers to local authors. There's something for everyone. Towards the back, there is a complete section for kids with children’s books and toys. The selection spans fiction, nonfiction, middle school, young adult, and children’s books, along with used books for more affordable options. The store isn’t particularly spacious, but it utilizes every available inch to enhance the cozy experience, even providing chairs for customers to sit and read.

Overall, Firelight Book and Candle is a lovely store with an inviting atmosphere and the most attentive staff. It’s the perfect place to shop for Christmas presents, and I would highly recommend stopping for a visit.
